In preparation for COP29, a public-private partnership event titled “Raising Ambitions and Accelerating Action: COP-29 Sustainable Business Forum” was held in Baku. The Executive Director of C4IR, Fariz Jafarov, participated in the panel “COP29: Technology and Innovation.”

The designated President of COP29, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev, announced that Azerbaijan aims to reduce harmful gas emissions by 40 percent by 2030. It was also noted that as part of the country's transition to green energy, 30 percent of its energy supply will come from renewable sources by 2030.

The forum highlighted the severe impact of climate change on various countries, which hampers business and overall economic development. Speakers called for the private sector to be more proactive with climate-related initiatives and proposals.

During the panel session, Fariz Jafarov, Executive Director of the Center for Analysis and Coordination of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR), discussed the organization’s activities. He emphasized that implementing artificial intelligence and digital twin technologies can mitigate factors contributing to climate change. Jafarov announced a digital twin technology-based project to reduce water losses in Azerbaijan. He also mentioned that 4SIM is working on establishing a Next-Generation Technology Center in the country.

It was revealed that a "National Program" in partnership with Coursera will be implemented this year to help 200,000 citizens enhance their knowledge and skills. As part of this program, a "COP29 Sub-Academy" will be established, offering courses related to climate and sustainable development. Additionally, 4SIM collaborates with the World Economic Forum’s “AI in Energy” platform on energy transition issues, and a discussion platform involving a similar community in Azerbaijan has been created.
