A roundtable discussion explored the use of Earth observation data in addressing climate and environmental challenges.

As part of COP29, the World Economic Forum (WEF), the Center for Analysis and Coordination of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) under the Ministry of Economy, and Deloitte organized a roundtable titled "The Role of Earth Observation Data in Addressing Climate Challenges" with the participation of members of the Earth Observation community.

The event, attended by WEF's Earth Observation Initiative community members, included expert-level discussions on utilizing Earth observation data to address climate and environmental issues, as well as on the latest technologies and developments in the field.

Fariz Jafarov, Executive Director of C4IR, highlighted the significant role of Industry 4.0 technologies in Azerbaijan's sustainable development strategy. He emphasized Azerbaijan’s collaboration with the World Economic Forum and other partners to attract new investments in the digital economy and enhance the energy sector through artificial intelligence.

Brett Loubert, Head of the Space Research Department at Deloitte USA, shared insights about a report on Earth observation data prepared in collaboration with WEF. It was noted that the mission of WEF’s Earth Observation Initiative is to expand the commercial use of space-based Earth observations to foster sustainable economic growth. Earth observation through satellites and other sensors has the potential to contribute an additional $3.8 trillion to the global economy by 2030. Furthermore, these technologies can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by two gigatons annually.
