Roundtable on “Industry 4.0: Opportunities and Perspectives” Held in Baku

29 May 2025

A roundtable discussion titled “Industry 4.0: Opportunities and Perspectives” was held at the Baku Business Center, focusing on the development of supercomputer infrastructure in Azerbaijan.

The event was organized by the Center for Analysis and Coordination of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4SIM) under the Ministry of Economy, with the goal of identifying the needs of local enterprises for a national supercomputer infrastructure and exploring opportunities for collaboration. The roundtable brought together over 50 experts from sectors including artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, and high-performance computing, along with representatives from universities, research institutes, and tech startups.

In his opening remarks, Anar Narimanov, Head of the Digital Governance Department at the Ministry of Economy, emphasized that the creation of a supercomputer infrastructure is aimed at providing sustainable and agile solutions in a time of growing demand for computational power. It will support complex economic modeling, deep data analysis, and the application of AI technologies.

It was noted that the supercomputer will be used for various national initiatives such as the development of a National Spatial Data Infrastructure, big data generation and analysis, investment modeling, and scientific research. In addition to government use, the infrastructure is expected to benefit the private sector and civil society as well.

Soltan Bayramov, Deputy Executive Director of 4SIM, highlighted that the supercomputer infrastructure is a critical tool for processing large datasets rapidly, conducting complex computations, and enabling advanced analytics. He emphasized its role in driving industrial digitalization, automation, and the evolution of smart manufacturing systems.

The event also featured a presentation on global best practices in supercomputing, along with an overview of the technical capabilities of Azerbaijan’s planned system. The supercomputer is expected to deliver a performance of 1.2 PFLOPS and is built on NVIDIA H200 graphic processing units.

Experts attending the roundtable welcomed the initiative as a positive step for the country. They noted that this infrastructure will enhance the accuracy of results, enable faster and more precise economic forecasting and analysis, and support data-driven decision-making through simulations and well-grounded arguments.

The importance of strengthening data processing and analytical capacity was emphasized throughout the discussion. Participants exchanged views on the national demand for high-performance computing, technical requirements, infrastructure usage, and boosting scientific research capabilities.

The session concluded with a Q&A segment where participants' questions about supercomputer utilization were addressed.
