4SIM and WEF present findings on Azerbaijan’s digital trade ecosystem under the TradeTech initiative
The Center for Analysis and Coordination of the Fourth Industrial Revolution under the Ministry of Economy and the World Economic Forum have presented the findings of analyses conducted in Azerbaijan under the Forum’s TradeTech initiative.
Fariz Jafarov, Executive Director of 4SIM, Tim Stekkinger, Head of Digital Trade and TradeTech at the World Economic Forum, and Nitin Sharma, Project Lead for TradeTech, provided an overview of the Strategic Development Analysis on TradeTech. They highlighted existing opportunities in Azerbaijan’s digital trade ecosystem, key challenges, and priority areas that could accelerate the country’s integration into international digital trade systems.
It was noted that Azerbaijan has developed a strong digital government infrastructure. At the same time, further steps are needed to ensure the international recognition of electronic trade documents, strengthen interoperability between public and private sector systems, and develop the TradeTech ecosystem. The analysis also presented WEF recommendations on building a national TradeTech community, introducing special regulatory regimes such as sandboxes, and scaling digital trade solutions.
The event also featured discussions with representatives of government agencies, financial institutions, logistics companies, innovation ecosystem actors and the private sector. Participants exchanged views on current challenges and development opportunities in the field of digital trade.
The World Economic Forum’s TradeTech initiative aims to facilitate cross-border trade through artificial intelligence, blockchain, digital payments and other innovative technologies, improve the efficiency of logistics and customs operations, and expand international trade opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises.
The initiative is aligned with the priority areas set out in the Strategy for the Development of the Digital Economy in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2026–2029.
