The opening ceremony of the "Energy and the Fourth Industrial Revolution" hackathon was held at Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) on September 9, 2022, organized jointly by State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and Center for Analysis and Coordination of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR).

The purpose of the hackathon in "Energy and Internet of things", "energy and artificial intelligence", "energy and digital economy" is application of “green” and digital energy technologies in Azerbaijan, especially in the East Zangazur and Karabakh economic regions, support for innovative ideas for use of renewable energy resources and strengthening the energy security.

Making a speech at the opening ceremony, Elmar Gasimov, the rector of BHOS expressed the satisfaction with that the Higher School hosted such an important event. The rector noted that hackathon is important in the context of the demonstration by young people, distinguished with their innovative approaches, of their talents, knowledge and skills. He wished the success to the participants.

SOCAR vice-president Zaur Gurbanov noted in his speech that Azerbaijan, including Karabakh and East Zangazur, has great renewable energy potential. He noted that transformation of liberated territories into "green energy" zone was integral part of modern development strategy defined by the president of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, and the hackathon aimed to support the realization of the tasks set in this field.

Tamerlan Taghiyev, executive director of C4IR, emphasized that the hackathon contributed to the development of the innovation ecosystem in our country by improving digital knowledge and skills, as well strengthening the training of highly qualified personnel that meet modern requirements.

The information was provided about the hackathon terms after the speeches and the hackathon was launched.

It should be noted that the award ceremony to be held on September 9-11, shall be organized on September 17.
