A Recap of the Fourth Industrial Revolution Center's Impactful Year

26 January 2024

The Center of Analysis and Coordination of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) hosted a press conference to disclose the outcomes of its extensive activities. The event highlighted the center's achievements, collaborations, and initiatives from the past year.

Fariz Jafarov, the Executive Director of 4IR, addressed media representatives, shedding light on the institution's involvement in projects and initiatives conducted in collaboration with the World Economic Forum (WEF). The center, recognized as one of the 22 global Fourth Industrial Revolution Centers by the WEF, stands out as the first representative in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

C4IR Azerbaijan is collaborating with the WEF in three key directions: artificial intelligence and machine learning, the Internet of Things and urban transformation, and digital commerce. C4IR has actively contributed to various global initiatives. Notably, the center supported the participation of four startups in the previous year's Summer Davos held in China.

Throughout 2023, C4IR engaged in over 50 initiatives and participated in more than 30 local and international events. The center's collaboration with government agencies resulted in the preparation of eight research papers focusing on the application of 4IR technologies in sectors such as agriculture, industry, healthcare, government procurement, media, and education.

Exciting projects, including the implementation of digital twins, the creation of the Azerbaijani language Artificial Intelligence platform (GenAI), and the establishment of the Modern Technologies Center, were initiated by C4IR. The press conference highlighted successful executions of projects like the Generative Artificial Intelligence-based "4IR chatbot," "4IR solutions in Customs," and digital solutions for Azerbaijani wrestlers to enhance their competitive advantages.

Emphasizing its role in the science and industry cluster, C4IR actively participated in the InMerge Innovation Summit held in Baku, signing a memorandum of cooperation to support the startup ecosystem. The "Smart Industry Readiness Index" (SIRI) project was successfully implemented for the digital transformation of the industry in collaboration with "SOCAR Polymer" and "AzerGold" companies.

In collaboration with "Coursera," C4IR successfully implemented the "4IR Academy" project, offering over 800 courses and training programs from leading universities and companies worldwide for free. Looking ahead, continued collaboration with "Coursera" is planned for the current year.

For educational outreach, the "4IR Talks" event was held three times throughout the year, engaging diverse audiences and attracting over 600 attendees. In 2023, C4IR actively involved 50 students from nine different universities in projects and research related to 4IR technologies.

The press conference concluded by highlighting C4IR's commitment to promoting "green" technologies in various sectors of the national economy in the frame of the COP29 in 2024. A central focus will be on supporting startups in this environmentally conscious direction.
