A 4SIM Talks event titled “Smart Cities, Sustainable Future: AI and IoT in Urban Transformation” was held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), organized by the Center for Analysis and Coordination of the Fourth Industrial Revolution under the Ministry of Economy, in partnership with Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction.
The event focused on the role of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and other innovative technologies in urban development, as well as smart city solutions, sustainable urbanization, and current challenges and opportunities in digital transformation. The session brought together representatives of government agencies, international experts, private sector leaders, academia, and startups operating in the fields of construction and architecture.
Fariz Jafarov, Executive Director of 4SIM, noted that the smart city concept is no longer solely a technological approach, but also a strategic priority for sustainable development, citizen well-being and economic efficiency. He emphasized that discussions held on global platforms such as WUF13 are of particular importance for Azerbaijan’s digital transformation agenda.
During the session, speakers representing the “Icherisheher” State Historical and Architectural Reserve and Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction delivered presentations on the application of digital technologies in historic urban environments, the role of artificial intelligence in urban planning, and innovative governance models.
Representatives of Honeywell, Digital Residence and Sea Breeze also shared their experience in smart infrastructure systems, energy efficiency, nature-based solutions, and the application of advanced technologies in modern urban development projects.
The event also featured presentations by local startups operating in the construction sector.
The event contributes to the initiative on the formation of the “Science and Industry Cluster 4.0” under the Socio-Economic Development Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2022–2026.
